The Southern Steel Guitar Convention began in
February of 1987
in Belvedere, SC as a means for steel guitar players and other
musicians to get together and enjoy playing their music. Through the
cooperative efforts of Co-Organizers Charles Reece
and Buddy
Walker . And is now being held in Saluda SC at the Saluda Shrine
Club.
All the profit made from the Convention goes to
Shriners Hospitals for Children, through the Saluda Shrine Club of
Saluda, South Carolina.
While it is not the oldest Steel Guitar Convention in existence,
There have been more Steel Guitar Conventions held at the Saluda
Shrine Club, than any other steel guitar organization in the world at a rate of four
per year in February, May, August, and November.
1000 to 2000 persons annually enjoys the relaxed atmosphere with
Good Music, Good Food, and Good Fun and Fellowship at the convention. These events are very much like a large family re-union.
We have one Headline Performer
and an average of about a dozen more.
Many of these are players of world renown and many are members of The
International Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in St. Louis, MO.
The present
Co-Organizers are Jerry Reece and Joe Turner
And with the huge help of a lot of great staff members as David
Christmas , Terry Rogers, and Jason Rushton. Along with the wonderful
staff band of Jim Hartley, Woody Ledford , Johnny Thomas , Bob
Strickland, Wayne Smith, Wayne Stowers, and Jerry Burns, put on one super
convention Joe Turner Jerry Reece
